Gift Giving Reveals Options for Sweethearts

Sweet Gifts for the Love of Your Life
Debbie Miller, sales manager at Meigs Jewelry, shows off the last remaining Philip Stein watch designed by Oprah Winfrey. Meigs is the only store in the state designated to sell Oprah’s “favorite thing.”
TAHLEQUAH — Aside from Valentine’s Day, Christmas may arguably be the most popular day to bestow treasures on a sweetheart.
Local merchants specializing in sweetheart gifts are armed to the teeth this season, providing options for even the most discerning sweetheart.
Debbie Miller, sales manager at Meigs Jewelry, said Philip Stein watches are enormously popular, particularly the watch designed by Oprah Winfrey. “We are the only store in the state selected to sell this watch, and we only have one left,” said Miller. “The band is interchangeable, and all Philip Stein watches have the network frequency technology built in.”
Network frequency technology has been shown to reduce stress and sleeplessness, and can even help lower blood pressure, said Miller.
“A couple of our customers have been able to quit taking Prozac and blood pressure medication after wearing these watches,” said Miller. “Todd [Mutzig, owner of Meigs] wears his all the time, and said he sleeps much better now.” Milller said the Stein watches are available for both men and women.
“We also carry Fruitz watches, which are a little more casual and fun,” said Miller. “For women, diamond solitaire pendants and studs are still quite popular, and we have an upgrade program, which means you can trade it later for a larger diamond.”
Meigs also has a new designer – Sarah Blaine – who has implemented a lot of pearls in her work.
“The pearls are really big sellers this year,” said Miller. “They’re just really hot right now.
For men, Miller recommends purchasing a William Henry knife. “We just got in a new, high-end line of William Henry knives for the men,” said Miller. “This designer has been named the best in the world by knife sellers. They also design money clips and pens, as well.”
No matter what age, lovers often spend most of the holiday shopping season not only searching for the perfect gift to say “I love you,” but creative ways in which to present it.

NSU's Emerald Ball Honors Alumni, Offers Chance to Win Prizes
Daniel Johnson, director of NSU Alumni Services, Todd Mutzig, owner of Meigs Jewelry and NSU First Lady Susanne Betz show off one of the prizes offered at this year's Emerald Ball- an 18-carat white gold emerald and diamond necklace valued at nearly $3500. Mutzig, a 1991 NSU graduate, is donating the gem for the university's annual alumni event on Dec. 4, which honors outstanding alumni.
Northeastern State University's 13th annual Emerald Ball plans to entertain guests with games that yield generous prizes. The black-tie optional affair is Saturday, Dec. 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the UC Rozell Ballroom.
"We have a number of great prizes up for grabs including the grand prize of a cruise for two," said Daniel Johnson, director of alumni services. "Keeping with tradition, we will also give away a stunning emerald necklace donated by Meigs Jewelry." The emerald necklace is an 18 karat white gold emerald and diamond necklace valued at $3,495.
The Emerald Ball is the Alumni Association's annual formal recognition of the alumni honorees including the Distinguished Alumni and the Outstanding Young Alumnus. The recipient of the President's Award for Community Service is also honored.
"The evening is about celebrating and recognizing the great works of our four alumni honorees and the contributions they have made," said Johnson. "We look forward every year to sharing this evening with our honorees and we pull out all the stops to make it an especially memorable occasion for them."
The honorees for Distinguished Alumnus are Lowell Lehman and Ron Quiett. The honoree for Outstanding Young Alumna is Dawn Holsted and Sandy Garrett is the honoree for the President's Award for Community Service.
Tickets for the Emerald Ball are $75 for Alumni Association members and $90 for non-members. Tickets may be purchased online or by calling the Office of Alumni and Development. For more information contact the association at (918) 458-2143.
"We see the Emerald Ball as the holiday event of the season," said Johnson. "Next to homecoming, it is the biggest event undertaking of the Alumni Association and we feel it is a very appropriate way to honor these individuals who have done so much, each in their own way, for the region, the state and even the nation."
